Plane of Dreams
The Plane of Dreams is a realm of shifting and ever-changing landscapes, where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred. It is a place where the subconscious thoughts and emotions of mortals take form and come to life in a never-ending cycle of dreams.
The plane is surrounded by a series of dreamscapes, each one a small pocket of reality where the dreams of mortals play out. These dreamscapes can take on a variety of forms, from idyllic pastoral scenes to nightmarish hells. They are highly subjective and can change in an instant, reflecting the thoughts and emotions of the dreamers within.
The plane itself has no fixed geography, with landscapes and environments that can shift and change at a moment's notice. The gravity is subjective and often defies conventional physics, with dreamers able to walk on walls and ceilings or float through the air as they please.
Time flows differently on the Plane of Dreams, with moments stretching out into eternity or passing in the blink of an eye. It is a realm of constantly shifting perspectives and surreal landscapes, where the impossible becomes possible and the mundane is transformed into the extraordinary.
Navigating the Plane of Dreams can be a dangerous proposition for those who are awake and aware. The realm is highly morphic and can be manipulated by the dreamers within, leading to unpredictable and often dangerous situations. It is a place where reality is malleable and the line between dream and reality is often blurred.
Your Dreams Aren't Private¶
In the plane of dreams, somebody is always watching.
Dreamwalkers¶
Dreamwalkers are malevolent creatures that are native to the Plane of Dreams. They are dark, shadowy entities that have the ability to infiltrate the dreams of mortals and manipulate them to their will. They are often described as shapeless and formless, able to take on any appearance they desire within a dream.
Dreamwalkers are known for their ability to instill fear and terror in dreamers, often creating twisted and frightening versions of familiar places or people to unsettle their victims. They are also able to alter the dreamscape itself, creating strange and surreal environments that can be disorienting and confusing to those who enter them.
While they primarily exist within the Plane of Dreams, Dreamwalkers have been known to occasionally manifest within the waking world, often appearing as shadowy figures or as entities that only exist within the corners of one's vision. They are considered a dangerous threat by those who understand their existence, as their ability to infiltrate and manipulate dreams can have serious consequences for those who fall victim to their influence.
Dreamweavers¶
Dreamweavers are a race of ethereal beings that inhabit the Plane of Dreams. They are the natural guardians of the plane, working to maintain balance and harmony in the dreamscape. Dreamweavers possess the ability to manipulate the fabric of dreams and weave them into intricate patterns and designs that can be used for various purposes, including healing and protection.
Dreamweavers are known for their graceful movements and delicate appearance, with translucent wings and flowing robes that shift and shimmer in the ever-changing environment of the Plane of Dreams.
Dreamweavers are natural enemies of the Dreamwalkers, and often work to protect dreamers from their malevolent influence. They have the ability to enter the dreams of mortals and guide them to safety or assist them in overcoming their fears and nightmares. Dreamweavers also work to heal the damage caused by the Dreamwalkers, repairing the fabric of the dreamscape and restoring balance to the Plane of Dreams.
Despite their peaceful nature, Dreamweavers are not to be underestimated. They are fierce defenders of the Plane of Dreams and will not hesitate to use their powers to protect it from any threat, including mortal interlopers who may wander into the dreamscape unaware.
The Dreamscaper's Conflict¶
The Plane of Sleep is a neutral ground where Tiseyr, God of Sleep, and Phudros, God of Nightmares, wage a proxy war for influence over mortals. Tiseyr seeks to promote restful and peaceful sleep, while Phudros seeks to corrupt and manipulate dreams to spread fear and chaos.
Tiseyr's followers work to create safe and calming dreamscapes where mortals can rest and rejuvenate, while Phudros's followers seek to invade and corrupt these dreamscapes with nightmares and terrors. Mortals who experience restful sleep are more likely to feel refreshed and energized, while those plagued by nightmares may suffer from anxiety and fear.
The two gods and their followers constantly battle for dominance within the Plane of Sleep, with Tiseyr seeking to expand his influence and Phudros seeking to undermine and corrupt his efforts. This struggle for control spills over into the mortal realm, as dreams and nightmares influence the thoughts, emotions, and actions of those who experience them.
While the Dreamweavers and Dreamwalkers are not directly tied to any specific deity, both Tiseyr and Phudros can make use of their abilities and nature for their own purposes.
Tiseyr, being the God of Sleep, has a natural affinity for the Dreamweavers, and communicates with them or enlist their aid in promoting restful and peaceful sleep for mortals. The Dreamweavers also naturally work to counteract the influence of Dreamwalkers, as they seek to promote positive and restorative dreaming experiences.
Phudros, on the other hand, has enlisted the aid of Dreamwalkers in spreading nightmares and fear throughout the mortal realm. He may even have the ability to control or manipulate them to his own ends, using their abilities to infiltrate the dreams of mortals and cause chaos and destruction, but this is as of yet, unknown.
Somnus Knights¶
The Somnus Knights, an order of Tiseyr's mortal followers, are a group of skilled warriors and mystics dedicated to protecting dreamers from the malevolent influence of Phudros and the Dreamwalkers on the Plane of Dreams. They wear armor made of Somniumsteel, a rare metal imbued with dream magic that gives them the ability to lucid dream.
While lucid dreaming, the Somnus Knights can manipulate the dreamscape to create weapons and barriers to fight Dreamwalkers and protect dreamers. They also use Oneiric Blades, dream-infused weapons that can cut through illusions and heal wounds.
The Somnus Knights are trained in lucid dreaming techniques that allow them to access the subconscious minds of dreamers, gather information, and track the movements of Dreamwalkers. They are willing to risk their lives to defend the dream realm and fight against Phudros.
Overall, the Somnus Knights are a highly respected group of defenders who use their unique skills and dedication to Tiseyr to combat darkness and protect the dreams of mortals.
It is unknown of Phudros has any counter to the Somnus Knights.
Geography¶
The Plane of Dreams is a mysterious and ever-changing realm, where the thoughts and desires of sleeping mortals shape the landscape. The plane is composed of dreamscapes, pockets of pseudo-reality that represent the dreams of sleeping beings. These dreamscapes are interconnected by a vast and shifting sea of ether, which represents the unconscious mind.
Each dreamscape is unique, shaped by the dreamer's desires, fears, and memories. Some dreamscapes might be beautiful and idyllic, while others are dark and foreboding. The dreamscapes can range from small, intimate spaces to vast and expansive realms, depending on the strength and complexity of the dream.
The terrain of the dreamscapes is highly mutable, changing to suit the whims of the dreamer. Hills might become valleys, and mountains might turn to waterfalls with a mere thought. Time flows differently in each dreamscape, with some seeming to move at a rapid pace, while others are locked in a perpetual state of stillness.
The sea of ether that connects the dreamscapes is a swirling mass of color and energy. It is composed of the thoughts and emotions of all sleeping beings, and constantly shifts and changes in response to the collective unconscious. Travel through the ether is treacherous, as the shifting currents can easily disorient and confuse even the most experienced planar traveler.
Localized Phenomena¶
One example of a localized supernatural phenomenon in the Plane of Dreams is the presence of dreamscapes, which are small pockets of pseudo-reality where people's dreams play out. These dreamscapes can take on a variety of forms, from idyllic landscapes to surreal and nightmarish environments, and they can shift and change based on the dreamer's thoughts and emotions. Additionally, the directional gravity in the Plane of Dreams is subjective and time can flow differently in different parts of the plane, allowing for the creation of surreal and disorienting experiences. Finally, the plane can be manipulated by dreamers, making it a dangerous place for planar travelers who are not aware of their surroundings.
Fauna & Flora¶
The flora and fauna of the Plane of Dreams are highly mutable and often take on fantastical forms that reflect the dreams and subconscious desires of the dreamers who populate the plane. However, there are a few native species that have managed to persist and adapt to the ever-shifting landscape of the plane.
One such example is the Dreamflower, a delicate flower that blooms in a range of vivid colors and emits a gentle fragrance that has a soothing effect on dreamers. The Dreamflower is highly prized by followers of Tiseyr, who believe that it enhances the power of sleep and promotes restful, peaceful dreams.
Another example is the Nightmare Beetle, a beetle-like creature that feeds on fear and thrives in the darker, more chaotic corners of the Plane of Dreams. The Nightmare Beetle has a carapace that is highly resistant to psychic attacks and can emit a cloud of pheromones that induces feelings of terror and panic in those around it. Followers of Phudros often use Nightmare Beetles as agents of fear, unleashing them on their enemies or as a means of manipulating others to do their bidding.
There are also creatures known as Somnambulins, who appear as humanoid figures with ghostly, translucent skin. These beings are believed to be the personifications of sleepwalking, and can sometimes be seen wandering aimlessly through dreamscapes, lost in their own unconscious thoughts.
