Dawn Seeker

The Dawn Seeker is the warship leaving Agrovionimb with the party, its expedition crew, and the supplies needed to begin rebuilding in the ruined world.

The ship is intentionally over-crewed for a normal warship because the expedition crew is also the party's starting workforce.

At sea, the crew uses its shipboard assignments.
On land, the same people can be reassigned into labor groups using tool proficiencies and job backgrounds.

Cargo Ruling¶

For ACS purposes, ship cargo capacity uses short tons.

1 cargo ton = 2,000 pounds = 2 Material Units.

A D&D warship with 200 tons of cargo capacity therefore has:

400 MU total cargo capacity.

This does not mean all 400 MU are freely spendable construction material. The Dawn Seeker launches as a prepared expedition vessel, not an empty barge.

Player Bastion Reserve¶

The Player Bastion Reserve is an abstract cargo allowance for the players' free starting Bastions.

This reserve exists so the campaign does not punish characters for receiving the free Bastion benefits they are supposed to receive. It is not individually audited against the ship's tracked construction stockpile and cannot normally be spent on unrelated projects unless the DM allows it.

Expedition Tools & Crafting Stores¶

The 50 MU Expedition Tools & Crafting Stores reserve represents the infrastructure needed for a serious expedition into a ruined world.

This includes things such as:

forge equipment;
anvils, bellows, tongs, crucibles, molds, and quenching gear;
loom, canvas, rope, and sail repair equipment;
tannery racks, scraping beams, hide frames, oils, lime, and curing supplies;
ship kitchen, ration preservation gear, barrels, crocks, salt, smoke racks, and food stores;
alchemical glass, containers, wax, resins, acids, binding agents, charcoal, flux, and reagent storage;
carpenter's benches, saws, braces, augers, clamps, wedges, and ship repair timber;
spare tools, replacement handles, nails, hinges, fittings, rope, canvas, lanterns, tar, pitch, and waterproofing;
and general Crafting Supply Units for field repairs and early item-scale work.

This reserve is not tracked as Wood, Stone, or Iron MU. It is the ship's workshop readiness.

Labor Doctrine¶

A labor group is ten people.

The Dawn Seeker normally keeps a 10-person Ship Core aboard while up to 90 workers deploy ashore as nine land labor groups.

Skilled hirelings provide judgment, tools, supervision, and specialized work.
Unskilled labor provides the mass needed to haul, dig, fell, quarry, carry, load, clear, and build.

The groups below are default assignments. The party may reassign workers, but any active project still needs enough workers and appropriate skilled hirelings to proceed.

SC-00 Ship Core Role Descriptions¶

The Ship Core remains aboard the Dawn Seeker whenever the main labor force deploys ashore. These ten crew members keep the vessel navigable, guarded, repaired, supplied, and capable of serving as the expedition’s mobile base.

Dynama Vehrozath — Captain / Pilot
Dynama commands the Dawn Seeker. She makes final decisions about ship movement, anchorage, launch timing, emergency withdrawal, and shipboard discipline. When the party is away from the vessel, Dynama is the ranking authority aboard.

Balund Deepshield — Navigator
Balund is responsible for navigation, charts, headings, currents, shoals, reefs, and route planning. He works closely with Dynama when the ship is under way and maintains the ship’s practical navigation records while at anchor.

Risgard Deepshield — Sounding Assistant / Deck Watch
Risgard supports navigation by taking soundings, watching depth, tracking anchor conditions, and monitoring nearby water hazards. When the ship is anchored near an unfamiliar shore, she is one of the first people watching for drift, tide changes, and underwater danger.

Quilius Amedath — Shipwright / Hull Lead
Quilius keeps the Dawn Seeker physically sound. He oversees hull inspections, emergency patching, carpentry repairs, damage control, bilge checks, and any structural work needed to keep the ship seaworthy.

Minsage Fernwillow — Rigging Lead
Minsage maintains the ship’s rigging, ropes, sails, pulleys, nets, and lines. She makes sure the Dawn Seeker can still maneuver, launch boats, raise cargo, secure loads, and survive bad weather.

Ethlohyn Ahmorath — Ship’s Arcanist / Alchemical Stores
Ethlohyn manages the ship’s alchemical stores, waxes, waterproofing supplies, reagents, fuel treatments, and magical crafting materials. She is proficient in Arcana and can assist with magic item crafting, formula interpretation, essence handling, alchemical stabilization, and safe storage of strange materials brought back from shore.

Eslaryn Calarinde-LightRiver — Ship Guard / Boarding Watch
Eslaryn is the Ship Core’s primary security watch. She watches ladders, rails, boats, swimmers, prisoners, visitors, and anything trying to board while most of the crew is ashore. If the Dawn Seeker is attacked at anchor, she organizes the first defensive response until Dynama gives orders.

Szotstliss Necalli — Ship Cook
Szotstliss keeps the Ship Core fed and manages the working galley while most of the expedition is deployed. She also helps preserve food, stretch rations, prepare hot meals for returning labor crews, and maintain morale aboard the ship.

Chaecyne Boragath — Ship Medic / Counselor
Chaecyne handles shipboard medicine, minor injuries, illness, exhaustion, and emotional strain among the remaining crew. She also prepares the ship to receive wounded workers, sick scouts, or injured party members returning from shore.

Beigolor Ahrosnath — Quartermaster / Appraiser
Beigolor manages the ship’s stores, cargo access, valuable materials, trade goods, appraisals, and stockpile records. He tracks what leaves the ship, what comes back aboard, and whether recovered materials are useful, damaged, dangerous, or worth securing separately.

Together, SC-00 can keep the Dawn Seeker operational, but they are not enough to run major shore projects by themselves. If the party pulls too many of them away from the ship, the vessel may become harder to move, defend, repair, supply, or use as a safe fallback point.

Operational Notes¶

The Ship Core remains aboard to keep the Dawn Seeker guarded, repaired, supplied, and ready to move.
The Timber Crew turns forests, fallen timber, wrecks, docks, palisades, and ruins into usable Wood MU.
The Stone Crew gathers, quarries, hauls, and dresses usable Stone MU.
The Iron Crew mines, salvages, smelts, and forges usable Iron MU and fittings.
The Construction Crew converts stockpiled materials into actual built works.
The Foraging Crew gathers food plants, medicinal plants, magical plant units, and useful reagents.
The Hunting & Preservation Crew produces rations, hides, sinew, trophies, and camp security.
The Transport & Stockpile Crew moves, counts, records, loads, unloads, and protects Material Units.
The Defense & Survey Crew protects camps, supply lines, work sites, stockpiles, and routes.
The Swing Crew fills gaps, reinforces stalled projects, repairs tools, handles camp work, and moves wherever the expedition is short-handed.

DM Ruling¶

The Dawn Seeker leaves port loaded for bear.

It carries enough people, tools, supplies, and starting materials to function as a mobile base, stockpile, workshop platform, and expeditionary labor force. It does not carry an entire ready-made settlement. The party still has to gather, transport, defend, and spend materials in play.
