Ulam Bonechewer¶
Basic Information¶
- Species: Orc
- Occupation: Settlement Guardsman
- Workplace: Harbor Tidewarden Barracks
- Residence: Agrovionimb, The Bonechewer Residence
Appearance¶
Physical Description¶
Ulam is a tall orc standing 191 cm (6'3") with a regular, sturdy build that speaks more to an active lifestyle than rigorous martial training.
He has tanned dark brown skin, light blue eyes, and short, wavy platinum hair that is usually tousled and slightly unkempt. A rough, stubbly beard frames his jaw, and one of his tusks is noticeably chipped, giving him a slightly rugged appearance.
Though physically imposing by the standards of many of the city's inhabitants, Ulam carries himself quietly and often seems as though he would prefer to blend into the background.
Clothing and Equipment¶
When on duty, Ulam wears the practical uniform of the Harbor Tidewardens: a dark surcoat bearing the city's crest, sturdy boots, and a well-maintained shortsword at his side.
Off duty he dresses simply and comfortably, preferring plain shirts, loose trousers, and well-worn hiking boots.
He also owns a finely carved wooden flute that he keeps in excellent condition.
Relationships¶
Bor Thunderroar¶
Ulam is romantically involved with fellow Tidewarden Bor Thunderroar.
Their personalities complement one another surprisingly well. Bor's straightforward honesty and friendly demeanor often help draw Ulam out of his shell, while Ulam's patience and attentiveness make him a calming presence.
Elaia Juhrugath¶
A close friend and one of the few people with whom Ulam feels entirely comfortable speaking at length.
The two often exchange stories and gossip while Ulam is off duty.
Rodindi Zyldil-ShadowFlower¶
Though not openly hostile toward one another, Ulam and Rodindi frequently disagree on matters of faith and philosophy.
Their debates have become something of a recurring tradition.
Personality¶
Ulam is extremely shy and reserved, preferring to observe rather than participate in most conversations.
He is naturally curious and possesses a vivid imagination, often wondering about places he has never seen and people he has never met. This curiosity occasionally leads him to ask surprisingly thoughtful questions.
He is generally attentive to details and takes his responsibilities seriously, though he is not particularly ambitious. Ulam is trusting by nature and frequently goes out of his way to help others, sometimes to his own inconvenience.
Despite his calm disposition, he can be somewhat moody and is easily unsettled by sudden changes or conflict.
He is also perpetually tired and has a habit of yawning during conversations, especially late in the evening.
History¶
Ulam was born and raised in Agrovionimb and joined the Harbor Tidewardens as a young adult.
Although he performs his duties competently, he never sought a position of authority and is perfectly content serving as an ordinary guardsman.
He spends much of his free time hiking the countryside surrounding the city and exploring places he has never visited before. These small adventures satisfy his deep desire to discover new things and experience the wider world, even if he may never leave Agrovionimb itself.
When the Swamp Survivors first approached the Harbor Tidewarden Barracks regarding the death of Nelldove Sivmil, it was Ulam who informed them that Bor Thunderroar was away from the barracks for the evening and directed them to her home instead. Though a minor interaction, this small act inadvertently helped begin the investigation into the Covenant of the Last Dawn.
