Physical Description

Varan is a lean drow standing 154 cm (5'1") tall.

He has dark obsidian skin and pale pink eyes.

His long silver hair has begun to thin with age.

Unlike most Elves, his ears possess a bark-like texture resembling polished wood.

Varan works at Yelrinde-SongRiver's Fiber Shop, where he is employed alongside Bugdurash Stormcaller, another future member of the Witnesses.

The Witnesses

Varan was one of the eight individuals known as the Witnesses.

During the final meeting of the Witnesses, he expressed concern that the disappearance of Alar and the exposure of the dockworkers meant that all gatherings should cease.

"If the dockworkers are exposed, then all gatherings should stop."

Later, after discussion of the failed harbor ritual, Varan asked the question that perhaps best encapsulated the beliefs of the Covenant:

"How many more generations do we ask to survive like this?"

Belaia answered:

"As many as still mistake survival for victory."

History

Little is known about Varan's early life.

At some point he became involved in one of the Pagoda of Ara's private faith discussion groups and eventually joined the Covenant of the Last Dawn.

Unlike several other Witnesses, Varan did not appear fanatical or eager during the group's final meeting. Instead, he appeared weary and concerned, particularly regarding the continued safety of the organization.

He was arrested alongside the other Witnesses after Wrenn exposed the meeting to the Tide Wardens and later pleaded guilty with the rest of the conspiracy.
