Kelnelis Calafin-LightHair¶
Basic Information¶
Species: Drow
Occupation: Shop Assistant at The Sumptuous Bookbinder
Residence: The Sylael-ForestBeauty Residence, Agrovionimb
Status: Incarcerated
Appearance¶
Physical Description¶
Kelnelis is a stocky drow man standing 161 cm (5'3") tall.
He has warm obsidian skin, pale silver eyes, and long curly gray hair that he wears loose.
Like most drow, he possesses long pointed ears.
He often appears energetic and alert, carrying himself with the confidence of someone accustomed to speaking his mind.
Clothing and Equipment¶
Kelnelis dresses comfortably and tends to favor practical clothing suitable for working among books and papers.
His clothing is often somewhat disorganized, reflecting his impulsive and untidy nature.
Personality¶
Kelnelis is extremely energetic and enjoys starting conversations with almost anyone.
He is open to new ideas and quickly understands unfamiliar concepts.
He is highly impulsive and frequently leaves tasks and belongings in disarray.
Despite his sociable nature, he is surprisingly disinterested in the feelings of others and can come across as insensitive or inconsiderate.
He is generally calm and rarely loses his temper.
He has a habit of tapping his foot when thinking or waiting.
Interests¶
Birdwatching¶
Kelnelis enjoys birdwatching and can spend hours observing the wildlife around Agrovionimb.
He appears to find a sense of peace in quiet observation.
Influence¶
His stated ambition is to control others.
Whether this desire stems from a love of organization, a need to feel important, or something darker is difficult to determine.
Relationships¶
Amonyn Sylael-ForestBeauty¶
Kelnelis shares a long-term relationship with Amonyn and lives with her and their children.
Despite his involvement in the Covenant, little suggests that he neglected his family.
Umeven and Varan Sylael-ForestBeauty¶
Kelnelis is the father of two sons.
The knowledge that he was willing to risk the destruction of the world his children would inherit remains one of the most troubling aspects of his involvement in the Covenant.
Vulmus Arursath¶
One of Kelnelis's few close friends and one of the few people outside the Covenant with whom he maintained a meaningful relationship.
The Witnesses¶
Kelnelis was one of the eight individuals known as the Witnesses.
During the Witnesses' final meeting, he quickly concluded that Alar's disappearance meant the investigators had likely reached him first.
Later, when discussion turned toward the possibility that Alar might reveal information, Kelnelis quietly remarked:
"Then the burden passes upward."
The statement strongly suggests that he possessed a detailed understanding of the Covenant's hierarchy and procedures.
History¶
Kelnelis spent his whole life in Agrovionimb, eventually finding employment at The Sumptuous Bookbinder.
At some point he became involved in one of Belaia Bhovunath's faith discussion groups and later joined the Covenant of the Last Dawn.
Unlike some members of the organization, Kelnelis never appeared particularly emotional about the Covenant's beliefs.
During meetings, he was practical and analytical, focusing on consequences and contingencies rather than philosophy or grief.
He seemed to possess a strong understanding of the organization's structure and accepted the possibility that members would eventually be discovered.
When the Witnesses were arrested following Wrenn's infiltration of their meeting, Kelnelis offered no resistance and later pleaded guilty alongside the other conspirators.
