Imelyn, known throughout Andórë as the Dragon Queen and the Golden Sovereign, has ruled dragonkind since the Age of Prehistory. Ancient beyond mortal reckoning, she has witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations and devoted her endless years to preserving knowledge and maintaining harmony among the dragons of the world.

Revered for her wisdom, diplomacy, and immense magical power, Imelyn serves as both monarch and mediator among the Metallic, Chromatic, and Gem dragon families. Though often distant from the concerns of mortal peoples, she remains one of the most respected and influential beings in all of Andórë.

Physical Description¶

Imelyn's true form is that of an enormous gold dragon in excellent physical condition, as expected of one of the oldest and most powerful creatures in the world.

Her majestic body is covered in shimmering golden scales that gleam like polished metal in the light. Her great wings are adorned with intricate swirling patterns within their membranes, resembling elaborate filigree or ancient script.

Her face is serene and regal, with fiery red eyes that seem to hold the memory of ages and an ever-present, enigmatic smile. A pair of elegant, backward-curving horns frame her head, often decorated with finely crafted jewelry and gemstones. A large crimson gem suspended upon a golden chain rests upon her chest.

When assuming a humanoid form, Imelyn does not resemble any mortal species of Andórë. Instead, she appears as a towering, impossibly beautiful woman with distinctly draconic features.

She stands considerably taller than even the tallest elves and possesses luminous golden skin, portions of which are covered in fine metallic scales, particularly around her shoulders, neck, arms, and hips. Her fiery red hair falls in long, flowing waves, and her eyes remain the same brilliant crimson as in her true form.

Most notably, she retains her great horns and subtly draconic facial structure, making it immediately apparent that she is not a mortal creature wearing another's shape, but a dragon choosing to walk among smaller beings.

Personal History¶

Imelyn is among the oldest living beings in Andórë and one of the first dragons to emerge following the imprisonment of the primordial elemental titans. She witnessed the world while it was still wild and untamed, an age when dragons, giants, and megafauna struggled simply to survive.

During those early ages, Imelyn bore numerous clutches of eggs. None of her offspring survived the brutality of the prehistoric world. Predators, rival dragons, disasters, and war claimed every one of them.

The loss of her children profoundly shaped her life. Over countless millennia, her grief slowly transformed into a fierce maternal instinct directed toward dragonkind as a whole. She came to view every dragon as one of her children and eventually accepted the role of Dragon Queen not out of ambition, but out of a desire to protect future generations from suffering the same fate.

During the Dragon-Giant War, Imelyn was one of the principal architects behind the creation of the Dragonborn. She believed the creation of a mortal servant race was necessary for the survival of dragonkind. The resulting war crimes, devastation, and eventual liberation of the Dragonborn remain among her greatest regrets.

The release of the primordial elemental titans and the near destruction of the world left permanent scars upon her psyche. Since the formation of the Oath of the Gatewatch, she has dedicated herself to ensuring that such a catastrophe can never happen again.

The Kobolds – Imelyn regards the Kobolds with genuine affection. She sees them as innocent beings whose unconditional devotion to dragons deserves protection rather than exploitation. She watches closely for any signs of abuse or mistreatment within kobold warrens.

Storm Giant King Cigrion – Once her greatest rival and enemy, Cigrion eventually became one of Imelyn's closest and most trusted friends. Their shared guilt over the Dragon-Giant War and the release of the primordial titans forged a bond few others could understand. Their friendship deepened during the War of the Great Nations, where they finally set aside the last remnants of their ancient animosity.

Imelyn often refers to him simply as "my old friend."

King Eilauver Oreiner – One of the few mortals whom Imelyn considers a genuine friend. She greatly admires his wisdom, patience, and dedication to preserving peace and knowledge. Though their friendship spans less than a century, she considers him remarkably mature for one so short-lived.

Sacred Empress Zel'xia, the Serpent Queen – Imelyn respects Zel'xia's intelligence, political skill, and her unusual willingness to think in terms of centuries rather than years. Their friendship is built upon mutual respect and frank conversation.

Imelyn believes Velhelsin is dangerous precisely because her intentions are often noble.

Though outwardly cordial, their conversations are often careful games of diplomacy and veiled disagreement.

Enemies of the Oath of the Gatewatch – Imelyn holds implacable hatred toward any individual or organization that seeks to release the primordial elemental titans or exploit their power.

Those Who Abuse Kobolds – Few things can provoke Imelyn's anger faster than the mistreatment of kobolds. She considers such acts a betrayal of the responsibilities dragons owe to those who worship and trust them.

Early Life¶

Imelyn was among the first generation of dragons to emerge after the Gods imprisoned the Primordial Elemental Titans and brought an end to the chaos of the Primordial Age.

The world into which she was born was unimaginably harsh. Civilization did not yet exist, and the first dragons, giants, and other great creatures of the world lived in a constant struggle for survival. Predation, warfare, and natural catastrophe were commonplace.

During this age, Imelyn bore several clutches of eggs. None of her offspring survived.

The deaths of her children profoundly shaped her worldview and would eventually transform her into the fiercely protective matriarch of dragonkind.

Rise to Prominence¶

As dragon society slowly emerged during the Prehistoric Age, Imelyn distinguished herself through wisdom, magical talent, and an unusual gift for diplomacy.

She eventually united the Metallic, Chromatic, and Gem dragons beneath a single crown, an achievement many scholars consider among the greatest acts of statesmanship in history.

She became the first and only Dragon Queen and has held that position continuously ever since.

During the Dragon-Giant War, she was one of the founders of the Oath of the Gatewatch and fought alongside Storm Giant King Cigrion to preserve the wards imprisoning the Primordial Elemental Titans.

She also carries immense guilt for her role in the events that ultimately allowed the Primordial Elemental Titans to break free and devastate the world during the Cataclysmic Convergence.

Current Circumstances¶

Though she has largely withdrawn from the day-to-day affairs of mortal kingdoms, Imelyn remains an active participant in international diplomacy.

Following the Great War and the signing of the Marate Peace Accords, a special roost was constructed for her within the World Accord Hall in the city of Marate.

Imelyn attends diplomatic sessions there with remarkable regularity.
