Age Of Demons

The Age of Demons came after the Andórë Encyclopedia was published. It is present here for clarity for players in Andórë.

The 11th day of Rainmoot started out like any other day in the cities of Andórë. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and people were going about their daily business. But then, two hours past high sun, something strange happened. The color of the magical portal in the Great Gates shifted from its usual light greenish-blue to a deep, crimson red.

At first, people didn't know what to make of it. But then the view through each portal shifted from its opposing portal elsewhere in the world to a screaming, raving realm of blood and madness. The air grew thick with a noxious smoke, and a deep sense of foreboding settled over the cities. And then, hordes of demons began pouring out of the Great Gates.

The people of Andórë had never seen anything like it. The demons were unlike any creature they had ever encountered before, with twisted bodies, razor-sharp teeth, and eyes that glowed with an otherworldly malice. They were merciless in their attack, tearing through the streets of the cities, killing anyone and anything that got in their way.

The armies of Andórë did their best to push back the demons, but they were vastly outnumbered and outmatched. Within hours, most of the inhabitants of the capital cities of the world had been annihilated by the demonic hordes.

As the demonic hordes continued to pour out of the Great Gates, the armies of Andórë were stretched thin and struggling to hold the line. The demon onslaught was unrelenting and seemed to have no end in sight. With each passing day, more and more of the great cities of Andórë fell to the demonic armies.

The people of Andórë were horrified by what they saw. They had never faced such a terrifying and relentless enemy before. The demons were creatures of pure chaos and destruction, and they left nothing but death and devastation in their wake. Many of the people had lost loved ones in the attacks and were now forced to flee their homes and seek refuge wherever they could.

As the days passed, it became clear that the armies of Andórë were fighting a losing battle. The demons were too powerful and too numerous, and the defenders were too few. The cities that were lost were heavily fortified by the demon armies, making it nearly impossible for the Andórëan armies to mount a successful counter-attack.

In desperation, the remaining mortal armies turned to their leaders for guidance. They knew that they needed a miracle to turn the tide of the war, and they hoped that their leaders could provide one.

Giant King Cigrion and Dragon Queen Imelyn knew that they needed to act quickly. They had seen the horrors of the demon invasion firsthand and knew that they needed to do something to stop it. They gathered the remaining mortal armies, as well as as many giants and dragons as they could find, for a final assault on the Great Gates. They chose Dichipolyn, capital of the Kingdom of Oreinerius

to make their final assault.

The assault on the Great Gates of Dichipolyn was fierce and intense. The armies fought valiantly against the demonic hordes, but the demons seemed to have an endless supply of reinforcements. Cigrion and Imelyn knew that they needed to do something drastic if they were to have any chance of success.

And so, in a daring move, Cigrion and Imelyn rode through one of the portals into the Abyss, hoping to close the gates from the other side. It was a desperate gamble, but it was their only hope of saving Andórë from destruction.

The mortal armies and their dragon and giant allies continued to fight on, holding the line against the demonic hordes as best they could. But as the days wore on, it became clear that Cigrion and Imelyn had not returned. The fate of Andórë hung in the balance, and the people waited anxiously for any news of their leaders.

Then, on the 19th of Redfall, something incredible happened. The Great Gates shifted once again, but this time, they were no longer red portals to the abyss. Instead, they were brilliant golden portals to something unknown.

For a few minutes, the armies of Andórë watched in wonder as the gates shimmered and glowed with a radiant light. Then, without warning, a massive shockwave emanated from the gates, and Andórë was ripped out of the multiverse.

The great gates were now dead, but Andórë was severed from the multiverse. Practitioners of Divine Magic could no longer contact their gods or perform their magic. Powerful wizards could no longer travel to other Planes of Existence. People stopped dreaming when they slept. Nobody knew what now happened to a soul when its body died.

The demons stopped pouring into the world, and rather than their spirits going back into the abyss when they were killed, they just died where they stood. Andórë was saved, but at a great cost.

Now, there was little of Andórë left. Its rulers, armies, and most of its people perished in the time of Demon's Run. Some people may live hidden in small enclaves. The last known bastion of civilization was the Island of Agrovionimb, formerly part of the Kingdom of Druvavarbia. Demons can't create, only destroy, so they didn't have the ships to assault the island.

The Great Gates may be dead, but their legacy lives on. Andórë was forever changed by the events of Demon's Run, and the survivors were left to pick up the pieces and rebuild their shattered world.

Last Bastion of Civilization

After more than a millennium has passed since the catastrophic event known as Demon's Run, Andórë is now a desolate wasteland ruled by eight Demon Lords who sit on the thrones of the once-great nations. The last remaining bastion of civilization is the small island of Agrovionimb, located 60 miles off the coast of the Dragon's Maw continent. Though it was once a city of 2,200 inhabitants, it has grown in the years since the catastrophe to become a multicultural hub, with refugees from all over the world finding their way there in the last days of the Great Nations. Despite being a peaceful place, Agrovionimb has no great wizards, armies, or leaders to defend it, and its inhabitants know that beyond the horizon lies only death.

Early on, centuries ago, when they still had wizards, the could look at the world from afar, and they know that 8 Demon Lords now sit on the thrones of the 8 Great Nations.

Despite the dire situation, the people of Agrovionimb have managed to eke out a meager existence on their island. They have become self-sufficient, growing crops and fishing to sustain themselves. They have also managed to build simple homes and structures to protect themselves from the elements and any potential threats.

Over time, the people of Agrovionimb have come to accept their fate as the last remnants of mortal life in the world. They have created their own culture and traditions, and have learned to live together in relative peace and harmony. They have even managed to form their own form of government, with a council of elders making decisions for the community as a whole.

Despite their best efforts, however, the people of Agrovionimb are still haunted by the memories of Demon's Run. They live in constant fear of the demons finding their way to the island and wiping them out, as they did with the rest of Andórë. They know that their isolation won't protect them forever, and that eventually they will have to face the demons again.

But for now, they try to live their lives as best they can, cherishing every moment they have and hoping for a brighter future. They know that they are the last hope for humanity, and that their survival is of utmost importance.

What We Know

We don't know how the demons managed to claim all the Great Gates, once a symbol of peace and unity, at once. We have the following theories, but no real evidence for any:

  • Magic: Perhaps the demons were able to utilize a powerful and previously unknown magic that allowed them to break through the seals on the Great Gates and take control of them all at once.
  • Betrayal: It's possible that someone on the inside, such as a member of the Gatewatch or one of the world leaders who had access to the Great Gates, betrayed the world and allowed the demons to take control.
  • Divine Intervention: Perhaps the demons were able to make a deal or bargain with a powerful being or god who was able to give them control over the Great Gates.
  • Pre-planning: It's possible that the demons had been planning this attack for centuries or even millennia, and had been slowly infiltrating the various factions and groups and that those people controlled the Great Gates.

The gates closed in what most people believe was a divine display, with their golden light. But we don't know how we were removed from the multiverse or disconnected from our gods. We have the following theories:

  • The pulse of energy that ripped Andórë out of the multiverse could have been caused by a powerful spell or ritual that was performed by Cigrion and Imelyn on the other side of the portal.
  • Another possibility is that the demons themselves inadvertently caused the event by overloading the Great Gates with their power, causing a chain reaction that resulted in the pulse of energy and the removal of Andórë from the multiverse.
  • Finally, it's possible that the event was caused by a higher power, such as a deity or cosmic force, intervening to prevent the demons from destroying the multiverse. This could have been a last-ditch effort to save the rest of the Planes of Existence, even if it meant sacrificing Andórë.

Notes

Both the Giant Lands and Dragonlands killed their demon lords before they eventually became overrun by the demons.

  • Giants: They killed Obox-Ob
  • Dragons: They killed Kostchtchie

It is said the Imelyn killed Kostchtchie single-handedly.
