Kingdom of Oreinerius

The Kingdom of Oreinerius is a land of beauty and magic ruled by the wise and noble King Eilauver Oreiner. Situated on the Dragon's Maw continent, this elven kingdom is renowned for its advanced education system, mastery of druidic and arcane magic, and its deep connection to the natural world. The Kingdom of Oreinerius is comprised of five provinces, each with its own unique cities, culture, and resources. The elven army and reserves, backed by elite druidic archers, royal guards, and powerful arcane knights, stand ready to defend the kingdom from any threat. The Kingdom of Oreinerius boasts an advanced infrastructure of roads, bridges, and ports, allowing for easy transportation of goods and people throughout the land. Its economy is bolstered by an extensive trade network overseen by the influential Merchant's Guild, and its citizens are among the most literate and knowledgeable in the world. The Kingdom's values of honor, duty, and justice are enshrined in its code of laws, the Edict of Elvandar, enforced by the Eruithair, the impartial judiciary system of the Kingdom. The pantheon of Andórë is worshipped by its citizens, with no gods being shunned or forbidden, and education in magic and the natural world is highly prized. The flag of Oreinerius, with its symbols of a tree, a crescent moon, and a sunburst, represents the Kingdom's close relationship with the natural world, its balance of light and dark, and its commitment to progress and growth.

Sacred Groves

The following druid groves are considered sacred by all inhabitants of Oreinerius, whether they are druids or not.

Circle of the Dreamweavers, Grove of Somnus. The grove of the Dreams circle is located in a hidden valley, surrounded by towering mountains and a dense forest. The air is thick with mist and the sound of trickling streams. Druids of this circle come here to meditate and enter a dream-like state to commune with nature.

Circle of the Mycelium, Grove of Fungi. The grove of the Spores circle is a cavern filled with phosphorescent mushrooms and fungus. The air is humid and heavy with the smell of earth and decay. Druids of this circle cultivate and study the properties of various fungi and use them for medicinal purposes.

Circle of the Celestial, Grove of the Night Sky. The grove of the Stars circle is a clearing in the forest, surrounded by tall trees that seem to touch the sky. At night, the stars above are visible through the canopy, and druids of this circle use the grove to study celestial patterns and align their magic with the movements of the stars.

Circle of the Earthmother, Grove of the Mountains. The grove of the Land circle is a vast meadow, surrounded by rolling hills and wildflowers. The air is filled with the sound of chirping crickets and buzzing bees. Druids of this circle use the grove to cultivate plants and animals, and study the cycles of the seasons.

Circle of the Lunar, Grove of Selene. The grove of the Moon circle is a misty forest filled with gnarled trees and lichen-covered rocks. The air is cool and damp, and the moonlight filters through the dense canopy. Druids of this circle use the grove to channel the power of the moon, and to commune with the spirits of the forest.

Circle of the Flocks, Grove of the Grazing Plains. The grove of the Shepherd circle is a grassy meadow, surrounded by gently rolling hills and a babbling brook. The air is filled with the sound of bleating sheep and the scent of fresh hay. Druids of this circle use the grove to tend to herds of domesticated animals, and to study the ways of domesticated animals.

Circle of the Blaze, Grove of Ember. The grove of the Wildfire circle is a clearing in the forest, surrounded by charred trees and the remnants of a recent forest fire. The air is thick with the scent of smoke and ash. Druids of this circle use the grove to study the properties of fire and to commune with the spirits of wildfire.

The Grove of the Council.

The grove of the council is located deep within the heart of a dense forest, surrounded by tall trees and a winding river that flows through the area. The entrance to the grove is hidden by magical illusions and can only be accessed by those who have been granted permission by the king himself. The grove itself is a serene and tranquil place, with a small pond at the center and a circle of ancient trees surrounding it. The trees are imbued with powerful magic, allowing them to create a natural barrier that shields the grove from the outside world. At the center of the grove stands a towering tree, known as the Council Tree, which serves as a meeting place for the Aranweithir, Eruithair, and Ardentathiel, as well as the king himself. The tree is surrounded by a ring of stones, each representing one of the council members. During meetings, the council members sit on these stones, communicating with one another through telepathy. The grove is filled with the sounds of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and the gentle sound of flowing water, creating a peaceful atmosphere that helps facilitate discussions and decision-making. The grove is also home to various magical creatures, including sprites, unicorns, and other fey creatures, who act as guardians and protectors of the sacred space.

History

Oreinerius was the first true nation of the mortal races of the world, and at its height it easily eclipsed any of the nations in existence today. Its lands reached beyond its current boarders, well into the Beastlands to the east, and Velhelsin to the north.

The founder and king if this great nation was Filverel Oreiner, and he ruled it from its founding until his death in -3500 AoE. Seeing his death coming King Filverel decreed that his son Prince Eilauver, high druid and duke of the southern half of the kingdom, would be his successor.

King Filverel's daughter princess Velhelsin, high magister and duchess of the northern half of the kingdom, refused to accept this, as she was the eldest descendant of the king and viewed her brother as weak.

Great Elf War

The Great Elf War raged for 1,100 years, which should have been longer than the lifespan of either of the former king's descendants. Queen Velhelsin extended her life via use of clone magic. It is unknown how many lives she's had in the 3500 years since the start of the war, but most historians believe it is than a dozen. As high druid, and now king, Eilauver's lifespan was extended tenfold, as happens with all archdruids.

In this time, Queen Velhelsin subjugated, and eventually integrated the northern Goblinoid tribes into her fledgling kingdom. At this time she started referring to herself as Empress Velhelsin, as she believed herself the ruler of her kingdom, that of the goblinoids, and of Oreinerius itself.

The queen's people lover her more than the gods themselves. In time, she developed a new, powerful magic. By directly accessing the souls of her people, and the power of the sun, she would launch a magical attack so powerful it would all but wipe out Oreinerius.

One small group of goblinoids in the northern reaches of her kingdom rejected this magic when it was activated, and begged the gods for assistance. The gods listened and the magic backfired. The elves of Velhelsin were cursed, their skin burned to an ashy gray, and they were to never again walk comfortably under the sun.

The goblinoids who stood up to their queen were transformed into the first Verdan, and they fled further north and west, eventually joining Thylalyr.

After this curse was laid, the elves of Oreinerius would never again trust their northern kin who bore the mark of that event, and they labeled them Drow, or Dark Elves.

After the Elf Wars

Queen Velhelsin's rage and jealousy at her younger brother never subsided, and Oreinerius never made true peace with their northern brothers and sisters. When the war ended, Oreinerius focused on life within its new, smaller borders. The ravaged nation no longer bears the scars of that ancient war, but would bear new scars in the great war that followed centuries later.

King Eilauver gained a reputation among his people, and to the outside world, of being an incredibly wise, humble, honest, and fair ruler. While diminished overall in size and population, his kingdom is still the most learned in the world.

Integration of the Beastfolk

Many of the cities in the Beastlands are built on the ruins of elven cities destroyed in the great elf wars. After the elf wars ended, three of those cities requested to become part of Oreinerius, giving up their peaceful anarchy, for the strength and wisdom of the elf nation.

Those cities were Bozhesk, Dichipolyn, and Sochelug.

To seal this agreement, and show his faith in his newfound friends, King Eilauver moved the capital from the great elven city of Reiqua, to the beastfolk city of Dichipolyn.

Demography and Population

1.5 million, mostly elves. Beastfolk are also common. Druids from around the world come to Oreinerius to study.

Territories

Bordering the The Deep of Savawood, a large inland sea, Oreinerius covers an area of about 530,000 square miles [Ed note: Slightly smaller than Alaska; slightly larger than Peru] extending to the The Fabled Tips in the east.

Overall, about 150,000 of the nation's 1.5 million residents live in the cites. The rest dwell in rural homesteads as farmers, trappers, druids, hunters, and hermits.

The kingdom is broken into five provinces for the purposes of administration.

Fetheirian Margrave

Geographically this is the largest and northern most province of Oreinerius, it borders the Velhelsinese Empire. It lies on the eastern shore of the Deep of Savawood.

  • Thilnenamar, a city of 14,000 people.

In addition to those five counties, there are three territories within Oreinerius with no cities of note.

Nythion Territory

On the southern end of the Dragon Savannah, this territory is full of rolling hills and grazing animals.

Yagniaro Territory

This large territory on the western side of The Fabled Tips mountain range covers the eastern edges of the Dragon's Savannah. The elves of Oreinerius almost never go here.

Ryanalyla Region

A small region just west of the Fetheiran Margrave, bordering the Velhelsinese Empire. Most of this area has been ravaged by arcane destruction.

Military

Before the treaty, Oreinerius was losing their war with Velhelsin. They were left with about 20,000 standing troops, mostly infantry and archers.

Infantry: This makes up the bulk of the standing army and is comprised of elven soldiers skilled in close combat. They are equipped with swords, spears, and shields.

Archers: Elven archers are renowned for their accuracy and speed. They use longbows and shortbows to rain arrows down on enemy forces from a distance.

Cavalry: Although not as numerous as the infantry, the elven cavalry is a force to be reckoned with. They ride swift and nimble horses, making them ideal for hit-and-run tactics and flanking maneuvers.

Druidic Magic: Druids are an important part of the elven military, using their knowledge of nature to aid their comrades and hinder their enemies. They can call upon the power of the elements to summon creatures, cast spells, and heal wounded soldiers.

Arcane Magic: Elves are also skilled in arcane magic, which they use to create illusions, blast enemies with magical energy, and teleport themselves and their allies to safety.

The military forces of Oreinerius total around 20,000 standing troops, with an additional 5,000 reserve troops who can be called upon in times of war.

Druids

True druids, as opposed to soldiers trained in druidic magic, are never considered parts of the Oreinerian military, and are free to come and go as they please. Thus is the respect they are given.

The Druids of Oreinerius use their abilities to support the military in various ways when the nation is threatened.

  • Healing and Restoration: Druids use their knowledge of nature and the magic they possess to heal the injured soldiers and restore the damaged environment caused by battles. They can also purify the water sources, making them fit for consumption.
  • Reconnaissance: Druids are skilled in tracking, and they can scout ahead of the army, providing valuable intelligence about the enemy's movements and whereabouts.
  • Protection: Druids can use their magic to create barriers, concealment, and other defensive mechanisms to protect the troops from enemy attacks. They can also use their powers to summon natural allies, such as animals or fey creatures, to aid in the fight.
  • Communication: Druids can communicate with the natural world, including plants and animals, which they can use to relay messages or send signals to the army.
  • Offense: Some Druids have combat training and can fight alongside the soldiers, wielding weapons, and using their spells to devastating effect.

In times of war, the Druids work closely with the military commanders to determine the best way to use their unique abilities to support the troops and protect the kingdom.

Technological Level

The technology level of the Kingdom of Oreinerius is both advanced and deficient compared to other societies in Andórë. The elven kingdom relies heavily on nature magic and arcane magic to achieve things that in other societies would require technology. For example, they use magic to create sources of light, power heating and cooling systems, and even for transportation. However, they do possess some limited technology, such as simple machines like levers and pulleys, and some basic metallurgy. The kingdom also has skilled artisans who create basic tools and weapons, but the majority of goods are produced by hand or with the assistance of magic. The great forges of the United Nations of Bizad are completely unfathomable to the elves.

Religion

In the Kingdom of Oreinerius, there is no official state religion, and the worship of all gods is allowed. However, due to the predominant elven population, the worship of gods associated with elven values, such as Ara, Bateus, Cuulla, Greluna, Krallene, and Rildir, is more common.

The religious practices vary from temple worship to personal worship in the privacy of one's home. Temples can be found in each city and town, and they often offer a space for quiet contemplation, meditation, and prayer. Many temples also offer services such as healing, counseling, and education.

Each god has their own unique rituals and practices associated with them, such as offerings, meditation, and prayer. In general, elven religious practices focus on achieving inner peace, maintaining harmony with nature, and upholding the values of honor and loyalty.

While the worship of all gods is allowed, certain gods may not be openly worshipped due to their association with evil or forbidden practices. For example, the worship of Caneas, Earae, Xokone, and Zedrus may be frowned upon or discouraged.

Overall, the religious practices in the Kingdom of Oreinerius are diverse, but they all focus on achieving inner peace, maintaining harmony with nature, and upholding the values of honor and loyalty.

Seeing the benefits of such an organization, the King and the Aranweithir granted the Merchants' Guild a royal charter, which gave them the authority to regulate trade and commerce within the kingdom, as well as the ability to levy taxes on merchants and traders. With the backing of the Crown, the Merchants' Guild became a powerful force within the kingdom, wielding significant influence over economic policy and trade negotiations.

Education

Education is highly valued in the Kingdom of Oreinerius, with the government investing in state-sponsored schools across the nation. These schools are free to attend for all residents and are considered some of the finest in the world. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including literature, history, mathematics, and the sciences.

For those with an aptitude for magic, there are specialized schools that focus on the study of arcane and nature magic. These schools are highly selective and require applicants to pass rigorous tests before admission. The most promising students are often sent to the Crystal Tower, which is the most prestigious magical academy in the world, or to one of the many druid groves throughout the kingdom.

The education system is overseen by the Ardentathiel, or Council of Learning, which is appointed by the King and Aranweithir. The board is responsible for setting educational standards, accrediting schools, and ensuring that all residents have access to a quality education.

Overall, education is seen as a critical component of the Kingdom's success, with the government believing that an educated populace is essential for the growth and prosperity of the nation.
