Session Notes

The Cave Beneath the Sad Tree

With the centipedes defeated and the party gathered at the bottom of the impossible dry hole beneath the sad tree, the group continued deeper into the cave system.

They followed a tunnel through the darkness. When lamplight filled the passage, the light disturbed creatures clinging to the ceiling above them.

Living stalactites and strange bat-squid-like creatures attacked from overhead.

The party fought them off and survived the ambush.

As they continued exploring, they found more of the same creatures clinging to the ceilings farther ahead. This time, however, the creatures seemed to avoid the party's light, allowing the group to continue without another immediate fight.

The Pool

Further exploration led the party to a pool of water within the cave.

Anchor and Wrenn investigated and discovered that the water concealed an opening leading into another chamber.

The party chose to swim through.

Corq was carried by Wrenn, who had transformed into a giant octopus to help him through the passage.

On the far side of the water, the group emerged into a room that looked very different from the rest of the cave.

The Bulettes

Deeper in the cave, the party encountered a family of bulettes.

Rather than risk a dangerous battle underground, Wrenn used Pass Without Trace to help the group sneak past the creatures.

The spell worked, and the party avoided the family of bulettes entirely.

The Poltergeists

Inside the strange chamber, the party was attacked by invisible undead presences.

At first, they were perceived as floating, mask-like shapes, though this was less a true description of the creatures and more a side effect of the token used to represent them. In truth, the attackers were poltergeists: unseen spirits that hurled objects and force through the chamber.

The poltergeists vanished from sight and struck with violent telekinetic force, knocking party members back and making the room itself feel hostile.

During the fight, Corq took damage for the first time since the adventure began. The blow was severe enough to deal roughly half of his total hit points.

The party survived the attack, but the strange chamber made it clear that whatever lay beneath the sad tree was not merely another natural cave.

Note Taker's Recap

Corq/Quiro (Ojike): Followed a cave tunnel, lamplight caused some living stalagtites and weird batsquids to attack us, we survived. More cave exploring, more of the same monsters on the ceilings but they avoid our light. Find a pool of water in a cave, Anchor and/or Wren investigate and find an opening/room through the water. We all swim (Corq carried by Gaint Octo-Wren), room that looks much different from the rest of the cave, we get attacked by floating magical mask creatures who turn invisible and have a knockback attack that hurts (Corq took his first damage, half of his total HP).

That's what I remember 🙂

Anchor (Kor): Still out on project site but Pethi and Corq pretty much covered it except we also snuck past a family of bulettes thanks to Wrenn’s pass without trace.
