Session Notes

Returning to the Dawn Seeker

Starweaver's Reckoning Fourth Day, 13th of Palesun, 1137 AoD

With the shipyard still closed and Durgat Stormbringer under arrest, we returned to the Dawn Seeker to determine whether anyone had tampered with the demonic symbols.

Nothing had changed.

However, in the full light of day, Corq noticed something new.

By calculating the positions of the known symbols and projecting where the missing ones would have been placed, he determined that there had originally been nine runes carved throughout the ship.

More importantly, the runes all converged upon a single point.

At the center of that pattern, at the base of the ship, we discovered a strange scorch mark.

The mark appeared to be the residue of a spell that had fizzled or failed. Whatever ritual had been attempted aboard the Dawn Seeker, it had not succeeded.

With the prayer group's meeting scheduled for that evening, we began making plans to observe it. Wrenn volunteered to spy on the gathering.

Searching Nelldove's Home

We next traveled to the Shimmering Flats, the home of the late Nelldove Sivmil, hoping to uncover some clue that had been overlooked.

For nearly half an hour we searched.

We found no diary, no notes, and no evidence explaining what Nelldove had discovered or why she had returned to the shipyard on the night of her death.

The only significant item we uncovered was a magical cloak hanging upon the wall.

After a short rest and further examination, the cloak proved to be a Cloak of Protection.

Later that day, Venathrax returned the cloak to the Sivmil family. They thanked him for his efforts in uncovering the truth behind Nelldove's death and, to his surprise, insisted that he keep the cloak as a token of their gratitude.

Watching the Shimmering Flats

Concerned that Durgat's arrest may have frightened the other members of the prayer group into fleeing or going into hiding, Xam kept watch near Durgat's home.

Nothing seemed amiss.

The other shipbuilders appeared to be going about their daily routines as though nothing had happened.

If the prayer group was involved in the mystery surrounding the demonic symbols, its members were hiding their fears remarkably well.

The Intelligent Weapon Maker

Later, Corq and Anchor visited Marnfrid Deepdelver, a 116-year-old dwarven craftswoman and proprietor of The Intelligent Weapon Maker.

For nearly an hour and a half, Marnfrid examined Anchor's construction.

Her findings were extraordinary.

Anchor's body is not made of ordinary timber.

His frame is crafted from Feywood, an exceedingly rare and magical material. His joints are forged from adamantine, while the rest of his internal structure consists of steel.

The examination raised more questions than it answered. Whoever created Anchor possessed remarkable skill and access to materials of exceptional rarity.

Note Taker's Recap

With the shipyard still closed, the party returns to the Dawn Seeker to see if the carvings had been tampered with by anyone else since Durgat's arrest. They had not, but with the full light of day, Corq notices something new. By calculating where the previous etchings were, he finds the center point of the ship where they would have intersected. At its center is a scorch mark, a fizzle of a spell; whatever was attempted did not succeed. The party heads to the Shimmering Flats, the home of the deceased Nelldove, and a search of more clues is undertaken. Turning up nothing, except for a family Cloak of Protection, which Venathrax takes back to the Sivmil family, whom appreciates its return, but offers to Venathrax for his role in solving Nelldove's death. Xam, worried the prayer group may have been spooked, lurks outside Durgat's flat nearby to see if the other shipbuilders had scattered or gone into hiding... they had not and seem to be acting normal. Corq and Anchor visit the Intelligent Weapon Maker, an expert on wood and metals. Learning Anchor is made from Feywood and his joins from adamantine metals.

Discord Notes

12:15 PM Anchor: As everyone is gathered at the temple waiting for Pethi to finish up her inquiries, Anchor walks over to Corq.

“Hey Corq, all this looking at the ship materials, demonic symbols, and odd magic got me thinking. There’s no runes somewhere on my back plating or something that I can’t see, is there? I mean what wood and metal are my parts made from? Is that reacting to something going on, either the swamp or this demonic rune stuff we’re finding?”

6:17 PM Corq: "I'd be happy to take a look Anchor, but your glowing symbols before were not the same as those from the ship... they aren't," he whispers "demonic."

7:14 PM Anchor: "Whew, okay, was worried that maybe there some hidden ones back on my ass-plate that I couldn't see. How are you with research and identification of wood and metal? No idea what I am actually made of either. Maybe that will help us figure things out?"

7:56 PM Corq: "I like to think I have a moderate understanding of things both organic and inorganic, although it's not an area of expertise. But, maybe we'll get some breadcrumbs?"

8:04 PM Dungeon Master, : there are experts in both wood and metal in this city
