Session Notes

Two Weeks After the Swamp

For the past two weeks, we have gathered each night at The Glamorous Sacrifice.

During one of these evenings, Brodon Sivmil, a shipbuilder, approached our table. He explained that three nights earlier, his sister, Nelldove Sivmil, had died in the shipyards.

According to Brodon, something is wrong with the Dawn Seeker. Nelldove had returned to the shipyard at night to investigate and never came back.

Brodon showed us a small splinter of wood with a strange symbol burned into it.

Meeting the Tide Warden

We sought out Bor Thunderroar, an orc woman and one of the most honest and friendly Tide Wardens in the city.

At the desk we met Ulam Bonechewer, who informed us that Bor was at home, so we went there instead.

Bor explained everything she knew about Nelldove's death and gave us an official letter authorizing the seven survivors access to the shipyard so we could investigate both the Dawn Seeker and Nelldove's death.

Night Investigation

We decided not to wait until daylight and headed to the shipyard immediately.

  • Anchor and Pethi waited across the street.
  • Xam stood watch near the fence.
  • The rest of us entered the shipyard.

We learned that Nelldove had been one of the few actual designers of the Dawn Seeker. Despite this, the authorities had found no useful information aboard the ship.

Inside, we located her locker and toolbox.

The Symbol

We cast Detect Magic on the wooden shard with the burned symbol, but detected no magic.

We also searched the nearby building and the ship itself, but found no magical traces there either.

Note Taker's Recap

The Swamp Survivors have been meeting nightly since the slaughter in the swamp. Tonight was at a labor's bar, The Glamorous Tavern, the drinks were free but there was nothing glamorous about the establishment. Brodon Sivmil approached the group, a gnomish shipbuilder who had just lost his sister Nelldove in what is being called a accident while she was supposedly working on the Dawn Seeker ship way after normal work hours. Brodon doesn't believe it and asks the swamp "heroes" if they could look into it. He presents a broken plank of wood to us that has a symbol branded into it. This was found on his sisters desk and he believes it had something to do with her death. He has arranged for us to meet Kipnottin Murnwarrgar the Overseer of the Shipyard, tomorrow morning so we can gain access to the ship and scene. The night is young and Kanaeda is on first name bases with several of the Tide Wardens who had investigated the death as an accident. It is decided to learn what has already been investigated first before beginning our own investigation. Bor Thunderroar is the best candidate to get the information from, but the front deskman lUlam Bonechewer says she is out for the night. Luckily the community is small and it is early enough in the evening to make a house call. The parties recent notoriety and knowing who to talk is enough to gain official permission to lead our person investigation, so Bor sends us back to IUIam for a letter head stating such. Why wait till morning when possible evidence could be covered up on our arrival at the shipyard. So its decided to start the investigation under the cover of night. Half the party stay to keep watch in various locations outside the Dawn Seekers construction area, the other half jump the fence and begin exploring the area. Finding any markings on the ship other than measurement guides falls short. Finding broken boards that might have come from the same broken off plank Brodon gave us is no where in sight. Anything that may have been broke is now repaired and any broken pieces would be a needle in a haystack. The next thought would be to find her locker and personal items in the adjacent building. Elaborate blue prints of the ship decorate the offices and Nelldove's tools are found but no new clues present themselves. Corq decides its time to turn to the arcane, casting a detect magic. The symbol burnt into the wood plank glows softly..."My magic says there is magic in the symbol. It is subtle, but maybe we can find the rest of whatever this... puzzle? was?"
