Session Notes¶
After escaping the shipyard, the group compared what had been found. Corq had discovered two additional symbols hidden within the hull of the Dawn Seeker, and all three symbols carried the same faint magical residue. He carefully copied each of them onto parchment.
None of us recognized the markings. They were clearly runes of some kind, but they did not belong to any of the known families of magical notation. They were not Draconic, Celestial, or Primordial.
There was only one person left in Agrovionimb who might know.
The following morning, we sought out Kuserlion Faewen-FairyMaiden, the oldest member of the Council and perhaps the most learned scholar remaining in civilization. The ancient elf, who seemed older than the combined ages of the other councilors, has taken it upon himself to mentor two younger council members of goblinoid heritage: Onzuigse Mudfoot and Ird Ragescream.
The moment Kuserlion saw the symbols, his demeanor changed.
Without another word, he disappeared into another room, returned wearing fresh robes, and instructed us to follow him immediately to the Settlement Hall.
Beneath the council chambers, behind two locked doors—the second opened only by a key hanging around Kuserlion's neck—lies a hidden library. Here are kept the forbidden texts of the old world: books on demonology, dangerous magical lore, and knowledge deemed too perilous for common study.
After consulting one of the tomes, Kuserlion confirmed his fears.
The symbols were demonic.
Worse still, no one outside the Council should possess this knowledge, and Kuserlion himself holds the only key to this restricted archive.
With that revelation, the investigation changed entirely.
By order of the Council, the shipyard was immediately shut down, and we were granted full authority to pursue the matter with the support of both the Council and the Tide Wardens.
A trap was laid.
We concealed ourselves throughout the Dawn Seeker and the surrounding shipyard, while Xam remained in the open as a decoy.
We did not wait long.
Around half past eleven, a figure climbed the wall and entered the tool room, rummaging through its contents before making her way aboard the ship. Once inside, she began scraping away one of the symbols.
The intruder was Durgat Stormbringer.
Kanaeda revealed himself and confronted her. Startled, the orc protested that we had no right to be there, insisting the docks were for workers only.
She was escorted to the tool room office and questioned.
Durgat attempted to explain the markings away as construction measurements, even going so far as to produce nine symbols of her own. However, only two belonged to the same family as the runes we had found.
The truth finally began to emerge.
Under questioning, Durgat admitted that she had accidentally killed Nelldove Sivmil.
Yet even after Corq magically compelled her honesty through enchantment, she continued to lie about the true purpose of the symbols.
Whatever these demonic markings are…
Durgat is still hiding something.
NPCs Interacted With¶
- Kuserlion Faewen-Fairymaiden
- Durgat Stormbringer
Note Taker's Recap¶
The party regroups after the search of the ship and it is explained that 2 additional magical scrapings were found inside the hull. Corq created copies of the symbols the group plan to take the Council member Kuserlion Faewen-FairyMaiden in the morning, the most knowledgeable magic user left.
Councilman Kuserlion, the old elf is at the end of his life, older than the combined age of the other council members. He has took it upon his self to mentor two young council members of gobliniod heritage. With a quick look at the symbols he throws on fresh robes and tells the group to follow him to the Settlement Hall. Beneath the main halls, behind two locked doors, one which only Kuserlion has a keep too, a restricted library rests. All the collected demonology books and other forbidden items are stored here. Kuserlion flips through one book and confirms his suspicions that the symbols are demonic and no one should know how to do it. We are charged with finding out more, with the full power of the Council and Wardens at our disposal.
The shipyard is shut down and a stake out plan is formed. The party hides amongst the ship and area and awaits for the suspect to return to the scene and finish scraping off the symbols. We do not have to wait long when Durgat Stormbringer is caught, insisting that the symbols were merely measurements. A interrogation reveals she indeed accidentally kill Nelldove, but even after a charm spell she continues to hide the true meaning of the symbols.

Discord Posts¶
9:03 AM - Anchor: Once the others have been inside a while, Anchor turns to Xam and
Pethi.
“The others have been in there a while. If anyone comes nosing around, think we should be
ready to make a bit of a distraction.”
11:21 AM - Venathrax Django: Based on Corq's comments, Venathrax spends a spell slot to cast Detect Magic and then re-examines the area around the wooden spike where the body was found.
11:30 AM - Dungeon Master : Nothing.
11:32 AM - Venathrax Django: Venathrax would like to use the remaining time of the spell's duration to examine the exterior hull of the ship above the location where the body fell, as far as the scaffolding will allow.
11:33 AM - Dungeon Master : Detect Magic doesn't find anything on the exterior hull of the ship.
11:34 AM - Venathrax Django: If time allows, Venathrax would like to assist Corq with examining the interior hull of the ship in this area.
11:35 AM - Dungeon Master : Corq is already doing that, that's where we ended the session. He just hasn't advanced into it in discord yet.
2:18 PM - Pethi Wiselander: "Agreed. It's why I'm here. I hope they don't cause any
issues."
2:48 PM - Anchor: “Minor issues are fine, we just need to try and help make sure nothing becomes a major issue.”
2:50 PM - Anchor: “If the guards show up, you need to take a swing at me. Should be enough to get the guards to come check out our sparring session. Will also make plenty of noise and warn the others inside.”
4:24 PM - Pethi Wiselander: “I will say, after watching you fight in the swamp, you would make for a great sparring partner.”
9:23 PM - Corq: Corq enters the hull of the ship from the area Vash had first entered, and begins slowly walking along the walls. Scanning for any lingering whispers of magic.
9:25 PM - Dungeon Master : Some of the areas that were scraped lean (card scraper, sandpaper) are showing faint traces of residual magic. But there are two markings in the bilge section of the hull that still bear the same magical traces as the shard. Though the symbols don't look the same.
9:33 PM - Corq: Corq takes out parchment and ink and recreates all the symbols (splinter and hull), while studying the angles as best he can.
((Can I make a new knowledge check on the runes as Corq records the symbols?))
9:35 PM - Dungeon Master : Sure
9:38 PM - Dungeon Master : The symbols definitely belong to the same 'family' but that family doesn't match any Arcane notation you're aware of. Most arcane script and runes are written in Draconic, and these are not Draconic.
9:47 PM - Dungeon Master : From your books, you know that most runes are written in one of three families: Draconic (Arcane), Celestial (Divine), and Primordial (Natural). These aren't those.
9:50 PM - Corq: Corq takes out his staff, and pulls a charge of energy from within, and expends a charge to cast Comprehend Languages.
9:51 PM - Dungeon Master : The symbols on their own don't comprise a language, so to speak. This spell doesn’t decode symbols -PHB pg. 252
9:52 PM - Corq: Corq has what he came for, he will reconvene with the others, inform them what he found, and be ready to leave once their curiosities are sated.
4:39 PM - Venathrax Django: "First thing in the morning, we should take the splinter and these sketches to Kuserlion Faewen-FairyMaiden and see if he can tell us anything about them."
4:39 PM - Venathrax Django: "But, for now, we should get out of here before we press our luck too far."
