Getting Started with Andórë

Welcome to Andórë. It is my homebrew D&D world, I've been working on it for years, and most of it isn't on this website yet. You are currently in the Player's Guide to Andórë, these pages are meant to give you a breif overview of the world as it relates to playing D&D here.

Different parts of this world building site are meant to be read in different ways.

  • Metaphysical Andórë is deigned to be an in-world treatise on the nature of the world, planes, and gods.
  • Andórë Encyclopedia is another in-world reference on the history and peoples of Andórë. This was originally called "Encyclopedia Andóreca" but I thought that was a little on-the-nose.
  • Library of Andórë houses in-world texts, stories and artifacts.
  • Players' Guide To Andórë is an out-of-world document. This guide tells players and reader what to expect in Andórë, and what changes are made to established D&D lore or rules.
  • Andórë Today is, in essence, a campaign wiki. It will be updated as games are played in Andórë with the relevant information from those sessions. People, places, and things as they exist in the game world portion of Andórë. It can include both in-world and out-of-world information.

For the items that are listed as "in-world" nothing should ever be treated as Truth. These are the events and perspectives as viewed by the mortal peoples of Andórë. If a page says a specific god dislikes catfish, that is what the people of Andórë believe, it may or may not be true. Only the World Builder and Dungeon Masters have knowledge of "Truth."

The homepage of this site has a main menu. That is always going to be the best place to start.

Additionally, every article on this site contains a menu link on the left-hand side of the site that will pop-up the menu for you. The only pages where this menu does not appear are the built in maps pages. Also, under the header image for every article will be the link "Go to Andórë Homepage." Click that if you get lost.

Reading Order

What order should I read all these articles?
You should start with the Player's Guide, the Familiarize yourself with the Timeline, and move on from there. The good news is that you're already doing this.
1. Player's Guide to Andórë -- Start here and read all the pages contained therein.
2. World Timeline -- This will give you a breakdown on the broad strokes of the world. The game takes place roughtly 1,200 years after the demons doomed the mortal races of the world to extinction.
3. There are two choices for the third thing to read:
- If you are an elf, start reading the history of the world starting with the Age of the Elves
- If you are not an elf, start reading the history of the world starting with the Age Of The Great Nations
4. If you still want to read more, read around the site. Any of the things at the top of this page that are "in-world" are things your character has access to.

Can I Help You Build This World?

Yes and no. This world comes from my brain. I've literally been thinking about it for years, and have very firm opinions on some things in it. But there are some things you can absolutely help with:
1. Proofreading
2. Copyediting
3. Art
4. Ideals

Wait, aren't Proofreading and Copyediting the same thing?
Oh, you ignorant shit. Copyediting is editing for grammar, spelling, and conciseness. Proofreading is checking across the text for inconsistences, contradictions, and factual errors.

Right now, I need more help with Proofreading than with Copyediting, which can wait until later. Why fix a sentence now if you might just have to delete it later because it is incorrect anyway.

If you are looking at articles for inconsistences, use the reading order above as your priority hierarchy. The higher up on that reading order an article is, the more definitive it is. So if "The Primordial Age" article says that the Goddess Tuulla is a Yuan-ti the size of a mountain, and Tuulla's page within the pantheon section says Tuulla is a snowhare, then her page is wrong and needs to be updated to say she's a Yuan-Ti the size of a mountain because The Primordial Age is higher in the hierarchy. Send me any updates.

Art? I can't do art.
With the exception of some placeholder art I stole from Magic the Gathering (to be removed) all of the art on this site is either generated in Midjourney or comes from my maps I've built.

If you see something described and think you can make a decent piece of art for it in Midjourney, please do so. Here are some guidelines:

  • Article Header Images: The header images at the top of articles should be in a 4:2 aspect ratio... which I guess is the same as 2:1, but I type 4:2 because I'm cool.
  • In-Article Images: Images that appear within the body of articles should be in a 3:2 aspect ratio.
  • Right Sidebar Images: Images that appear in the right sidebar should be in a 2:3 aspect ratio.
  • Please don't be offended if I don't accept your art. We can both read the same description and have a different vision of the final product.
